Unchecked sprawling development threatens to replace much of the remaining farmland, unbroken forests, and scenic vistas that make our communities so special. Residents of the Bear-Paw region are experiencing a change in the quality and character of the landscapes in which they live. Since 1970, the towns in our region have more than tripled in population. Population growth and associated development are causing the fragmentation of wildlife and plant habitat, the degradation of water quality and quantity, and the loss of working farms and forests, scenic beauty, and recreational opportunities. Bear-Paw is the local, independent land conservation group working with landowners and communities to permanently protect these resources from development.

Mission & Vision

Bear-Paw Regional Greenways is a land trust with a mission to permanently conserve a network of lands that protects our region’s water, wildlife habitat, forests, and farmland. Established by resident volunteers, Bear-Paw works to conserve open space through outreach, education, and land protection project assistance. We envision a region of scenic beauty and rural character where diversity and quality of life are sustained.

Our goal is to safeguard native wildlife and plant habitat, travel corridors, water resources, working farms and forests, the region's inherent beauty, and local recreational opportunities. Our volunteers and staff work with landowners, communities, and the public to identify opportunities for conservation, promote available conservation options, and assist with the completion of land protection projects.
