History

Charlotte and Roland Kimball were lifelong New Hampshire residents and supporters of conservation. In 1975 they purchased a 22-acre parcel off Freeman Hall Road, where Roland cut firewood with his sons, slowly working to improve the forest. The Kimball family spent lots of time there over the years, enjoying nature and being outside together.
Roland passed away in 2008, prompting Charlotte to begin thinking about the future of their family land. She began working with Bear-Paw to put the land into a conservation easement that same year, and in 2010 Charlotte and her son Kenneth made the decision to donate the land entirely to Bear-Paw. The conservation easement was transferred to the town of Nottingham, and the Kimball Family Forest became a Bear-Paw preserve. Charlotte passed away in 2013 having left a legacy of thoughtful stewardship and generosity behind for us all to share.
