What it means to give:
As we reported in 2020, Bear-Paw received a generous bequest from the estate of Isobel Parke following her passing in February. Isobel had been a supporter of Bear-Paw in her life with both financial support and her engaging presence at events. You probably enjoyed one of her huge salads or the tangerines she always contributed to the food at our annual meetings. We had no idea, however, that she had remembered us in her estate planning. We very much wish we could have thanked her in person.
Bear-Paw is honoring Isobel's legacy by taking a two-part approach. We are setting aside a portion of the bequest funds and investing in our long-term financial stability. The second portion of the funds we are using to "leapfrog" the organization - by immediately investing in actions that would not have otherwise been possible but that will make us better able to achieve our goals of conserving a network of lands across the region. This includes hiring a dedicated land protection project manager, improving accessibility and information along our public trails, and updating our conservation plan and land maps.
